How do I compare?

The only person you should compare yourself with is yourself!
If you follow me on social media, you will realise I am a bikini competitor and I have been competing since 2014. Since then I have changed so much both physically and mentally.
When I did my first competition I had absolutely no clue of what I was doing but I did it anyway! I constantly was comparing myself with other girls on social media who were also doing the competition and other Fitness and bikini models I was aspiring to be like. Don’t get me wrong it’s great to get inspiration from others and very important to surround yourself with others of similar goals and values but it’s a different thing entirely to compare yourself and your body to anyone else!
I know it’s a bit cliché but the only person you should compare yourself with is yourself! Everybody is different, has different background and circumstances and environments to work with and in. Also every BODY is different, genetics play a huge factor in how we all lose or gain weight and build muscle, we are all different height, shapes and have different leg lengths! So, it is impossible to be like anyone else so don’t try to be.
I quickly learned that competing for me,- was about bring the best version of my body to the stage. I work hard and eat to fuel my body to become as strong and fit as I can and then have my time on stage to showcase my efforts. It doesn’t matter if they judge me as best compared to everyone else because I know that as that point I am MY best! Of course, I want to win I wouldn’t enter if I didn’t but there is more to it than that. I want to inspire other women to take care of themselves. Invest time in their health and bodies not because they are too thin or too fat or too slow or just feel not good enough. Spend the time on yourself because you love your body, you are worth that investment of time and the benefits of doing so are immense!
Its about positive body image! Its all very well looking at girls on Instagram and other social media thinking they look amazing, I could never be like that?!! However, you can easily change the way you look just by simply altering how you stand or pose. As part of my competition training I go see a posing coach purely for this reason. No point in working hard if you don’t know how to present yourself. She blew me away the first time I went to see her. I couldn’t believe the difference it made! I am sure you are aware that most of the pictures you see on social media are edited in some way, filters to make their skin look perfect, lots of them are professionally taken with the right lighting etc, it makes a huge difference. So next time you look in the mirror or take a selfie remember that and don’t be so hard on yourself!
Allow yourself to shine!
By doing so you give everyone around you permission to do the same! Remember you are contagious so why not spread positivity? There are 2 types of people in the world: Drains and Radiators! We all can be both sometimes, but I prefer to radiate than drain! We tend to naturally avoid drains as they tend to suck the life from you! However, if you radiate warmth, friendliness and love just watch what happens around you!
Your circle of influence!
Choose your crowd carefully as you tend act like the people you spend most time with. So, if you want to be successful choose those that already have success or share the same goals as you. You never know some of that may rub off on you! It usually does!
Open your mind!
Since I started competing I have learnt a great deal about myself. It has opened new doors and opportunities as its taken me to places I wouldn’t normally go and do things I wouldn’t do. I have met so many wonderful people and made a great deal of friends from all over the country. I wouldn’t know them otherwise. All because I tried something new and way out my comfort zone.
Whether you choose to compete or do a different sport, play a musical instrument, dance or sing, each one of us is talented, unique and perfect in every way! We all have the gift of life so why not make the most of it in a body that is fit and healthy!
There is nothing stopping you trying new things and making a change only the things you tell yourself! Open your mind to new possibilities, live a life without limits go do fun stuff, travel, see things and experience the world and all its abundance!
